"After all, we cannot know what we are going to express. What is really creative is bound to be a surprise
because it is something we couldn't have thought of. This is the thing that we resist the most. We want to
know where we are going, why we are doing it, and what it is going to give to us. We want to know it all.
To be creative means becoming more familiar with being a little lost. If we are always full of what we
want to do, there is no room for the new."- Michell Cassou

Modern slant
This is a quilt I designed using my mono-printed fabrics, upholstery fabrics and some batiked and commercial fabric. I photographed this on a carpet in the library right after I finished sewing the binding. The quilt falls in a rectangular pool of light that left the edges in shadow.
Each letter is satin stitched with a yellow gold thread, too.

On the design wall
I've been working in the studio today.
I've got two pieces I'm focussing on and I'm in love with how they are turning out. Posting them here will allow me to see them in a different light.
I'm really happy with how the day flowed today. I've got to keep the momentum going.
Yay!

Warming up for Fall Adventures
I'm starting off with fusible fun. I'll be getting my creative juices flowing over the next few weeks and the outcome will be quilts!
I'll try a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. Every little bit helps.
I've always known that you are an artist if you think art, but I also know you're more of an artist if you DO art. So, Let's do art!
“Go and make interesting mistakes, make amazing mistakes, make glorious and fantastic mistakes. Break rules. Leave the world more interesting for your being here. Make. Good. Art.” ~Neil Gaiman

Water hitting a rock
This picture is a metaphor for my life right now. Things are moving as fast as this water is, rushing downstream! There I am, see me? That small rock at the bottom? Yup, that's me, sitting there, fighting the current.
What a commotion I am causing as the water jumps over me.
Not seen by the naked eye, this rock is slowly being moved by the force of the water... as am I by my fate.
It will all smooth out soon.

Reflections on the pond
“It is when you lose sight of yourself, that you lose your way. To keep your truth in sight you must keep yourself in sight and the world to you should be a mirror to reflect to you your image; the world should be a mirror that you reflect upon.” ~ C. JoyBell C.

Two views
We spend a lot of time defending our point of view as being the only right way. But here in these pictures of the same stump, both viewpoints and composition seem "right".
Realizing that there is more than one right way of seeing things helps. I can turn my work around and decide what viewpoint I want to show the world and know that although there are several options, the one I chose is just as right as the one I did not choose.
The decision lies in choosing the one viewpoint most people would never think of. Therein lies the key to innovation and unique creative thought. Starting here, with these two stumps, if I went back and shot several more of the same subject, I would eventually transcend the object to a new and different viewpoint to share.
This is the concept behind doing a series. It may be my time to explore this avenue in my work. I have known about this, but never felt compelled to explore it. Now just may be that time.
Same stump, different angle.

Cleaning up my act
Rainbow marriage, rights for all |
This is the result of the background of my blog disappearing. What happened to it? IDK Recent blog updates created havoc.
I could get used to this cleaner look though. It's not bad.
My work may even show up better! I hope so.
Gotta go to work now.
Enjoy your day.

A month later!
Dinner out with quilting friends |
I hear myself saying this a lot these days. What does it mean? Well, I could call it an excuse for my neglectful behavior on things I should be keeping up with.
But I also think it is the mantra I use to convince myself that I will be okay through this transition.
I find the comfort of hanging around with quilting friends a good remedy.

Spring is coming
I took this photo with my phone while driving home the other day. I stopped at the Co-op and saw the fog rising off the golf course across the street. It had a soft beautiful feeling about it. I was feeling happy and optimistic because it was around 6 and it was still light out.
Spring is on it's way. I know it and I just can't wait.
